By VeNecia DeCluette This second video of a two-part series features Jordon Peterson. Jordon is the 2004 Josey Junior World Champion, 2004 Texas State Champion, and recently set an arena record on her way to winning her first BFA Futurity championship. This video builds on “The Basics” video, and moves forward into the barrel pattern. Jordon will show you how she starts horses on the pattern and will discuss and illustrate some of the issues that she typically sees when training young colts.

Jordon spends a good deal of time emphasizing the importance of working toward honest effort over perfection in this video. Her system of training is low pressure for the horse, and she looks for the horse to learn naturally through repetition. The assertion that a horse “must be broke slow and fast” points back to the basics that she and Kristie outlined in part one of this two-part installment. Jordon uses those same basics to address the issues that colts typically develop as speed is added.

In addition to training tips for your horse, Jordon discusses the mental aspect of barrel racing and how she prepares for each run. She explains the statement, “It’s not all or nothing every time”, and explains how that motto makes it easier to be able to bounce back from disappointing performance. Her discussion with Charlotte gives the viewer answers to those questions that most won’t have the opportunity to ask, and Jordon will provide you with what she considers to be the most fundamental tip for making that winning run! Kristie’s influence on Jordon’s riding style and training philosophy is strong, and this video also gives you access to their relationship during an interview with Kristie and Jordon. Insight into a legacy of winning is priceless, and this video provides you with it!

This video is suitable for intermediate to advanced riders, as some of the concepts and exercises do require some previous knowledge, and at least average riding ability. The exercises presented here are suitable for horses a basic riding foundation. The video addresses the importance of a strong foundation, forward motion, tack and feed selection and mental preparation for the rider.

As an added bonus, the Tomorrows Champions feature with Charlotte Cunningham and Zack Thompson provides more tips on starting pattern work. Tips for warming up young horses, keeping your horse soft, early pattern work, and rider position in the saddle are discussed in depth.

Everybody makes mistakes it is just funnier to watch other people do it. In this set of bloopers Charlotte continues in her obsession with manure and Latricia makes a mistake of her own.
